Steam locomotives did not quite disappear from Eastfield Shed with the end of steam operations. BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T No. 80002 was retained for a time as a stationary boiler for the heating of carriage stock, and is seen here standing adjacent to Cowlairs Signal Box during April 1969. This locomotive was reprieved and now operates on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in West Yorkshire. [Eastbank Model Railway Club]


BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T No. 80002 stands in a siding adjacent to Cowlairs Signal Box during April 1969, following a period of use as a stationary boiler for carriage-heating. BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T No. 80054 brings a train of empty carriages for Waverley Station up the incline towards Abbeyhill Junction, assisted at the rear by another of the same class on 18th September, 1965. No. 80054 was delivered new to Polmadie Shed on 25th December, 1954, and remained there until September 1962, when it was transferred to St. Margarets Shed. It was transferred to Greenock Shed two months after this photograph was taken, and was withdrawn from service in July 1966. [Brian Flannigan]
