BR Standard Class 6 Clan 4-6-2 No. 72009 CLAN STEWART departs from Carstairs Station on 1st August, 1964, with train 1S53, the 9.25am Crewe to Aberdeen train, which was one of the last daily scheduled steam-operated workings on the West Coast Main Line. Only ten BR Class 6 locomotives were built, with No. 72009 being one of five allocated to Kingmoor (Carlisle) Shed. This locomotive was built at BR Crewe Works in 1952 and was withdrawn after a pitifully short life in 1965. [K.M. Falconer]
